Plans continue at a pace to make sure that this month’s Iur Cinn Fleadh will be a festival to remember for years to come. Highlighting young talent is certainly one of the most important aims of the Iur Cinn Fleadh festival with up and coming group Sioda performing as Darragh McNulty and Terry Conlon junior, Cup O’Joe, Brande, New Ancestors and Warrenpoint Comhaltas to name just a few. As well as the cream of local trad and folk talent playing in 30 plus venues around the city, there’s a chance to take to the water with an evening boat trip on the tall ship Soteria up Newry Canal while being entertained with the best of local traditional music. Tickets are very limited for this but trips will run at 7pm on the Friday and Saturday nights from the Albert Basin. Tickets are £10 and available from the Sugar Supper Club in Sugar Island. Teenager Aislinn Fegan who plays with young group Oscail will be playing in O’Dowds bar on the Saturday night (13th). Aislinn won the All Ireland for Banjo at Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann last month. Tickets are also still available for The Four Of Us concert on the Saturday night. Contact the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre for more information. With an afternoon of Ceili and set dancing in Newry Town Hall on Sunday 14 at 5pm with tickets on the door, there is really something for everyone so get down and enjoy the fun. The Iur Cinn Fleadh runs from September 12 to 14. For more information visit www.iurcinnfleadh.com or watch out for event leaflets in local shops.
