Growing industry

An industry led team will travel to Hamburg later this month as they seek to entice cruise liners to Warrenpoint from 2015 onwards. The Saga Pearl II will bring up to 500 visitors to the town next July but it is hoped that this will be the first on many visiting vessels – with shipping agents Samuel Stewart, Warrenpoint Port and Newry and Mourne District Council pulling out all the stops to put Carlingford Lough on the compass of cruise captains. To this end a glossy booklet highlighting the best aspects of the region has been produced whilst a website, www.cruisewarrenpoint.com has also been developed and will go live in the coming weeks. Between September 24 – 26 a delegation will travel to a Cruise and River Cruise convention in Hamburg in an attempt to secure bookings for the 2015 summer season. A head of the 2014 visit a programme of related activities and entertainments is being developed to present visitors with the best possible image of the region. It is also hoped that attractions such as traditional music and arts and crafts fair will entice hundreds of visitors to the town on the day.
