Keep trade local

The Federation of Small Businesses(FSB) is urging people to keep trade local as the seek to further boost the area’s economy. The FSB said that local shops and businesses as part of the fabric of the community have a big role to play in stimulating the local economy with an average of 63p from every £1 spent in their shops channelled back locally compared to 40p for larger organisations according to their research. They highlighted how in age when fuel charges are constantly rising it makes economic sense for people to go to local stores which will provide convenience and high quality, locally sourced fresh produce. Michael Diamond of Diamond Meats in Bessbrook said that the summer’s good weather had provided them with a welcome boost as customers flocked to buy burgers but what we would like is for customers to keep coming in all year round to see what we really have a lot to offer,” he said. South East Branch Chairman of the FSB, John Rooney (Rooney Fish) added: “It is vital that people recognise that by supporting their local shops and retail outlets such as Diamond Meats in Bessbrook they are helping to grow our local economy. “I would urge people to support the FSB’s keep trade local campaign and use them, don’t lose them.
