A Warrenpoint built modular hotel was loaded onto a ship at the town’s port last Thursday before sailing to the Shetland Islands where it will be pieced together as a 108 bedroom facility. The ground breaking project which was built by Milltown based firm Sipfit is understood to have pumped some £6m into the local economy – with massive potential for further contracts. Last month the Reporter was given access to Sipfit’s factory and storage facilities in Warrenpoint – a visit that highlighted the scale of the project. Indeed dozens of hotel rooms were visible complete with beds and bathtubs wrapped and stacked , ready for transit. Last week the modules were loaded onto the Arklow Moor ahead of a 36 hour journey to Shetland. The progress of piecing the cargo in the harsh Shetland weather – the main reason for the project’s unorthodox approach will then commence.
