SRC student Jordan Jeffers will represent the institute in the final of the UK Dulux Decorator of the Year competition. Successfully completing practical work with the skills he harnessed in his painting and decorating course, Jordan wallpapered stenciled and glossed with within set time parameters, pitching his skills against nine other students making it through to the final where he will complete with some of the UK’s finest decorating talent. The talented student will complete against 10 other regional finalists, which takes place in Edinburgh College on July 1-2 where he will compete for the chance to win £1000 and a host of other prizes. Jordan who is employed by local firm BMK Decorators said: “I am really happy to have won the regional heat. It was challenging to complete the practical piece within the set time but I enjoyed every minute of it. I am looking forward to competing in another final this time in Edinburgh – the standard will be even higher and it is a good opportunity to meet other painting and decorating students from across the UK.” College Lecturer Patrick Maguire also commented: “It is a great achievement to have come first in the regional heat – we are really proud of him at the college. The level of competition is high, so it ios testament to Jordan’s ability that he will be competing at the final of Student Decorator of the Year for the third year in a row. Beverly Whitehead, Marketing Communications Manager at Dulux said: “Now in its eight the competition has seen some of the brightest painting and decorating students test their skills against each other. It’s been great to see such enthusiasm from the students at the regional heats. Jordan’s enthusiasm and skill set is clear – we wish him luck for the final.
