The first ever Iur Cinn Fleadh will take place next month with more than 70 gigs taking place in more than 30 venues. The three day festival will feature the best in home grown folk and traditional music talent with a bit of rock and roll and country thrown in from Friday September 12 to Sunday 14. Sioda, The Rooneys, Warrenpoint Comhaltas, Cup O’Joe, Brande and All Folked Up are just a acts set to perform throughout the City. A Tall Ship is just one of the attractions which will entice crowds. “Soteria” will be transformed into an entertainment hotspot and will set sail from the Albert Basin at 7pm on Friday September 12 and Saturday 13. “We are extremely excited about the very first Iur Cinn Fleadh and look forward to it being a regular event in the Newry calendar for many years to come,” said Neil Bradley a founding member of the Newry campaigning group Newry 2020. Mr Bradley thanked the sponsors and said that without their support the Fleadh would not be possible. Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council Daire Hughes has also welcomed the Fleadh weekend. Newry’s favourite sons of rock The 4 of Us will return to Newry Town Hall on Saturday September 13. Past and present members of the band will all take to the stage together for the final time. Tickets are £17 and available from the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre Box Office on 02830313180 or at Ticketmaster.ie.
