The future’s bright

The president of Newry’s Junior Chamber said he’s confident in the potential of young people in Newry and Mourne following a Dragon’s Den competition involving local pupils to celebrate the Chamber’s tenth anniversary. The event pitted students from local schools against each other by preparing a business plan and present it with one group determined the winner. Having held heats within the schools in recent weeks the winners from five schools were ed to go to the final and they pitched to the panel of Dragons, Michael McKeown (MD Crash Services), Brian McConville (MD MJM Marine Group), Feargal McCormick (Managing Partner FPM Accountants) and Paul Braham (Braham Electricals) to win the title. After some fantastic presentations and some heavy questioning by the Dragons, Conal McNally and Lauren Keegan of St Patrick’s High School Keady were pronounced the winner after difficult deliberation by the judges. Brendan Malone, president of Newry Junior Chamber said the presentations were fantastic and the creativity and passion shown by the students was heart warming. He added: “The students that the students displayed great poise as their plans went under scrutiny but they also received tremendous praise from the panel. Our future lies in promoting and realising the potential that was clearly shown today.”
